What a gem this place is!

Second trip out in our Daisy; we decided to try somewhere reasonably close and somewhere different this time.   As Del's new job has more holiday time and therefore allows him to take half-days we ventured east on the M25 to https://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/campsites/uk/kent/sevenoaks/oldbury-hill-camping-and-caravanning-club-site.   The journey is pretty straightforward from here and it took just 55 minutes - it may have been 45 had we not taken a wrong turning which resulted in Del having to reverse the caravan around the corner in a small village....   I - now a 'qualified' caravan towing and 'manoeuvrer' was ready to jump in the driving seat but Del achieved the manoeuvre really quite swiftly!

Oldbury Hill

Oldbury Hill
Oldbury Hill really is a little gem of a campsite.  As the name suggests it is on a hill and ramps and chocks are a necessity (note to self remember the ramps and chocks next time....) - thankfully the wonderful wardens loaned us the ramps, because where the rear of Daisy was just off the ground the front legs were stretched to the full and even then we were slightly on a tilt.   Del left the motor movers in the 'on' position to give us a bit of extra anti-roll - no doubt we'll look back on this and think we're stupid Storm Hannah approaching and on a steep hill!

There were just half a dozen campers on this lovely site and the only noise was from the tweeting birds and the occasional overhead fly past of a Spitfire.   Great TV reception and really good 4G on the phone.   The toilet block is clean and well looked after; I did only find one shower and it could have done with some heating in there but that is my only 'complaint'.

On Saturday we decided to go to Ightham Mote https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/ightham-mote.  It was quite cold and rain threatened but we managed a tour of the house and a little of the beautiful gardens before coffee and cake in the Mote Cafe.

Hannah arrived during the night and we were both woken up by rain dancing on the roof, but surprisingly enough, despite being perched on the side of a hill, Daisy held fast.   All-in-all a lovely weekend, Oldbury Hill you are a gem and we'll definitely be returning.
