Alderstead Heath - May Day Bank Holiday
When Del and I first had a holiday where the weather should have been good, he said to me "I just want to be able to say 'it's too bloody hot!' Well this weekend saw his dream come true.
On Monday 30th April when I was in school the children were shivering with the cold, Del had to scrape the windscreen before leaving for work and the hats and gloves had come out again. By Friday 4th May the temperatures were up in the early 20s and today my phone has been reading at 27C - bonkers, bonkers, bonkers - and they wonder why us Brits talk about the weather all the time????
We'd booked the campsite some weeks ago. Alderstead Heath Caravan Club site https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-sites/england/south-east-england/surrey/alderstead-heath-caravan-club-site/ is just at the end of the M23 so very handy for us. We've been here just once before at the end of the season, it was cold, wet and miserable and there was only one toilet block open and I think we were probably the furthest pitch from it. We promised that we'd come back again, more because of the convenience of where it was rather than any particular yearning. Oh how things change when the sun shines! The new toilet block had opened that afternoon and the grass was green and lush, lovely trees of all types leaving little shady copses and big patches of forget-me-nots and bluebells hiding away amongst the surrounding shrubs.
This weekend was just a 'do nothing' weekend. I'd recently been reading a book that I was determined to finish. All the usual stuff, breakfast, shower etc. etc. (the new toilet blocks are really nice). It was lovely and peaceful, children laughing and playing, groups of families chatting until this tosser (and I can't even put asterisks in because I was so bloody angry), three vans away from us decided to play his eurotrash music VERY loud and from about 2pm to gone 9pm all we could hear was douf douf douf. I walked down there and just stared at his van but he was inside shouting at his girlfriend. I then went up to the office to complain, the music stopped for about 5 minutes and then came back on again. Del went down and asked him to turn it down but his own reply was "96dbs itz perfic" - Del said he was completely spangled. I've never been drawn to criminality but if I'd had a pair of pliers within reach I'd have gone down and cut his power supply! HOWEVER!!!! you reap what you sow.... early Sunday morning the local shooting club were up and booming from early on until midday.
Monday arrived far too soon. The sun was shining and it was hot. I never seem to want to sit around on going home day, I'd rather just get up, pack up and get on the road. Nothing unusual to report really EXCEPT I drove all the way home!!!!!!!!!!!
Ta-ra 'til next time. If you like what you read, please leave a comment.
